Job Summary
LOCATION: University of Ottawa
TYPE OF FELLOWSHIP: 1 year Clinical/Surgical Fellowship
PROGRAM INFORMATION:
The University of Ottawa Glaucoma Service is a tertiary and quaternary care service providing in-depth glaucoma care to both simple and complex glaucoma patients.
Our major strength is the mentorship of several glaucoma specialists in the fellowship program. The aim is to provide exposure to a wide array of surgical techniques and diversity in thought processes in diagnosing, following, and treating glaucoma.
The fellowship will deliver critical experience in the ever-widening spectrum of options in glaucoma management — from traditional glaucoma lasers (SLT, YAG, Argon, diode) and surgeries (trabeculectomy, tube shunts, bleb needlings, bleb revisions, cataract surgery) to MIGS/MIBS (iStent, KDB, GATT, XEN, Preserflo) and novel surgical procedures. Fellows will have around-the-clock access to a state-of-the-art wet lab facility conveniently located on-site. Fellows will gain expertise in the fundamentals of diagnostic testing (VF, OCT, UBM, anterior segment OCT) and clinical examination. There will also be exposure to the medical and surgical management of pediatric glaucoma.
The fellow will also interact with uOttawa ophthalmology residents in clinics, the OR, and during other academic activities. They will be exposed to research from our faculty and will be invited to participate in one or more research projects of their choice. Journal clubs and case presentations will also be incorporated into the rotations.
While the focus of this fellowship is glaucoma, there will also be exposure to the evaluation and treatment of complex anterior segment pathology, including secondary IOL implantation, IOL exchange/repositioning, and complex cataracts
