The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Oculoplastic and Orbital Ophthalmologist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties. Preference will also be given to individuals who have completed 2 years of subspecialty training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery. The incumbent will be expected to have a busy oculoplastic/orbital practice, performing a wide range of adult and pediatric orbital, lacrimal and eye lid surgeries. The position requires the successful candidate to share comprehensive ophthalmology city-wide on-call service with the remainder of the Department (approximately 4-6 weeks per year) and to be available to consult with the on-call team about oculoplastic patients.

Full-Time Ophthalmology Position, Lakeridge Health’s Department of Surgery – Durham Region, ON (Hospital)

The Division of Ophthalmology at Lakeridge Health’s Department of Surgery is actively seeking a full-time community comprehensive ophthalmologist to join our dynamic team. Based in Durham Region, the successful candidate will deliver high-quality ophthalmology care. This role offers teaching opportunities through our partnership with Queen’s University, and potential for physician leadership roles within Lakeridge Health.
Key responsibilities include medical ophthalmology (with a focus on glaucoma and diabetes), screening and management of Retinopathy of Prematurity at Oshawa Hospital’s NICU, and performing cataract surgery. The role involves using advanced technologies such as yag, SLT, and retinal laser. The position requires participating in a rotating on-call schedule across all five hospitals within Lakeridge Health (Ajax-Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Port Perry, and Bowmanville).
Requirements: Applicants must be eligible for CPSO licensure and possess FRCSC certification in Ophthalmology, with residency training in the field. While subspecialty training is beneficial, it is not mandatory. Candidates should be prepared to work within Durham Region.

The Department’s vision is to lead patient-centered eye care through outstanding and integrated service, education and research.
The successful candidate will have medical and surgical experience and expertise in the identification and treatment of eye diseases including care of ocular surface disease, cataracts, screening for patients with systemic illnesses, glaucoma and common retinopathies. The University of Alberta seeks a candidate with a proven track record of publication in peer reviewed journals. Research and clinical teaching experience is essential. Interest in resident training is of significant importance.
Job Description
Clinical Practice: Full time surgical and medical comprehensive practice; one day per week (average) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital EIA and the remainder will be community-based
Surgical Practice: A minimum of two operating days per month will be provided in the Edmonton Zone. The operating time will be shared with the other Ophthalmologists in the zone.
Call Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join the Ophthalmology on-call schedule where duties are shared between ophthalmologists in the Edmonton Zone. There is a requirement to be on-site at RAH for on-call days.
Teaching and Research: Regular teaching of Comprehensive Ophthalmology for medical students and ophthalmology residents is required. Teaching will be enabled through an appointment as a Clinical Academic Colleague within the University of Alberta FOMD.
Committee Work: It is expected that the successful candidate will assist in improving the lives of patients, learners and ophthalmologists in Edmonton by volunteering to participate on a variety of committees.
Research: The successful candidate will participate in eye care and ocular disease research and act as a mentor for learners including fellows, residents and medical students.

Permanent Full-Time Ophthalmologist Opportunities – Owen Sound, ON (Hospital)

We have an immediate opening for 1-2 full-time general Ophthalmologists to join our team – includes access to operating time. Specialists provide on-call support, in-patient surgical services and outpatient consultations and follow-up to a wide catchment area of over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million short-stay visitors each year.
Operating Room time is based at the Owen Sound and Meaford hospitals as part of the Division of Ophthalmology. The equivalent of one day per week of OR is being offered for this position. Both of our sites are equipped with Zeiss microscopes that incorporate the Callisto eye Toric alignment system for more accurate positioning of toric IOLs. In addition, both sites are equipped with a full complement of MST instruments for anterior segment surgery and sutured IOL work. Our Meaford site boasts brand new instrumentation allowing up to 18 cataract cases to be performed daily using the WhiteStar Signature Pro J&J/AMO cataract surgery platform. Instrumentation is also available for minor oculoplastic procedures at both sites.
Brightshores Health System (Brightshores) operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region serving a population of over 170,000. There will be access to operating time at the Rockyview General Hospital without assigned blocks, and the chartered surgical facilities for scheduled procedures. General Ophthalmologist, Comox Valley Hospital – Vancouver Island, BC (Hospital)

The Island Health Division of Ophthalmology has a position for a general ophthalmologist to join four others at the Comox Valley Hospital. Fellowship training would be an asset. Eligible candidates will hold, or be eligible for, full FRCSC in ophthalmic surgery and full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.
On-call responsibility is one in five. The recently opened North Island Comox Valley Hospital serves a referral population of 70,000. Surgical services include Orthopedics (Joint revision, and Trauma), General Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Ob/Gyn, Urology, Dental and Ophthalmology. The hospital has a closed ICU, diagnostic (including CT scanner and MRI) and interventional radiology. Island Health is also affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.

The Royal Inland Hospital Division of Ophthalmology is seeking a locum for maternity coverage starting in September or October 2024. Length of coverage is flexible, from shorter multi-week blocks to a longer 3-9 month period, depending on candidate interest.
The locum position will be in a well-run, efficient office, with significant medical and surgical volume that can be tailored to the candidate’s interest. The locum will primarily focus on adult ophthalmology, with glaucoma/suspects, cataracts, and general ophthalmology consults being the primary focus. There is also an opportunity for those with subspeciality interest in oculoplastics, as there are a significant number of surgical eyelid cases on the current waitlist with available minor surgery/ACU time.
Cataract surgery time will be offered as part of this locum. In office, there are OCT, visual fields, topography, YAG, SLT, and Argon lasers.

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is looking for a full time Orthoptist specialist to work in our Children and Women’s Health Program.
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NL Health Services) brings together five former separate health entities – Eastern Health, Central Health, Western Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information. The creation of a provincial health authority was announced following recommendations from Health Accord NL. NL Health Services is responsible for delivering health and community services to more than 528,000 people living in Newfoundland and Labrador and employs over 21,000 people.
Reporting to the Division Manager of the Emergency and Ambulatory Care Division of the Children’s and Women’s Health Program, the incumbent will provide assessment and treat anomalies of ocular motilities, in particular strabismus and amblyopia conditions under the direction of an Ophthalmologist. The incumbent will administer appropriate ophthalmic/orthoptic tests including visual acuity, ocular motility, optical coherence tomography, fundus photography, and binocular vision assessments and complete such reports in a timely manner. He/she will also provide visual screening procedures in ophthalmology clinics, potentially including out-reach clinic services outside of St. John’s. The Orthoptist will discuss issues relating to patient care, surgeries and ophthalmology follow-ups with referring ophthalmologists, in addition to instructing medical students or interns on the techniques of Orthoptic assessments.
