Lecturer/Assistant Professor Ophthalmologist: Oculo-plastics Specialist

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto is inviting applications for the position of oculo-plastics specialist with a primary appointment at Sinai Health and part-time appointments at Hospital for Sick Children, Unity Health and the Kensington Eye Institute.  The appointment is a full-time clinical position with an expectation of at least 20% non-clinical work at Sinai Health (research and education). The effective start date of this appointment is July 1, 2023.

The candidate will participate in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows and will add to the body of knowledge through original research.  The candidate will be required to participate in the quality improvement, education, and research committees in the Department of Ophthalmology at Sinai Health System.  Graduate degrees or other certified training in quality improvement, epidemiology, data management, public health and/or medical education is an asset.

The successful candidate will provide clinical and surgical sub-specialty care in oculo-plastics.  The clinical responsibilities will be primarily based at Sinai Health (Mount Sinai Hospital and Bridgepoint sites).  Up to 20% of clinic care, surgery and/or emergency coverage may be provided at other University of Toronto academic hospital sites.   It is expected that pediatric clinical and surgical care will be provided at Hospital for Sick Children; experience in pediatric ophthalmology is an asset.

The successful candidate should possess research skills as evidenced by advanced training and publication history. The candidate must hold an MD degree or equivalent, have fellowship training in oculo-plastics (ASOPRS-accredited/eligible fellowship preferred), and be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or higher.  The candidate must currently hold or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.  This position is resourced with operating room time, clinic space, minor surgical room time and diagnostics.

Full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist – Bermuda

Our client, Island Ophthalmology Ltd., is seeking a full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist for their busy private practice. The Ophthalmologist will be responsible for operating a general clinic and providing medical retina, glaucoma and cataract services in-house. They will perform cataract surgeries, as well as undertake emergency surgical procedures, trauma repairs, and basic oculoplastic procedures. Additionally, they will run a retinal laser and intravitreal injection service in house.

 Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • USA ophthalmology board certification or UK GMC specialist registration, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years post completion of training experience (CCT or board certification).

Required Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • Competency with a full range of ophthalmology equipment in a general clinic, providing medical retina, glaucoma, and cataract services.
  • Must be an independent cataract surgeon, and be able to undertake emergency surgical procedures, trauma repairs and basic oculoplastic procedures, as well as run a retinal laser and intravitreal injection service.
  • Ability to run clinics containing surgical retina, oculoplastic and paediatric patients.
  • Ability to offer sub-specialist procedures, in particular glaucoma surgery, is desirable.
  • Some familiarity with the provision of private healthcare, billing, and personnel management.

The successful candidate will join the hospital-based group of sub-specialized ophthalmologists located at the QEII Hospital. The candidate will be granted a Continuing Appointment with Dalhousie University. The incumbent will be expected to participate in teaching, research, and other academic or administrative duties as member of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Ophthalmologist, Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser – Abbotsford, Surrey, Coquitlam, BC

Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser is actively recruiting surgical and non-surgical ophthalmologists to join our group practice. We welcome general comprehensive ophthalmologists with some working experience, new graduates, and subspecialists as well.

We are a group practice of 5 ophthalmologists and 2 optometrists with fully equipped ophthalmology surgical suites. We have 3 clinics altogether in the Fraser Valley, all within 1 hour of Vancouver. Our Surrey clinic is a fully equipped medical ophthalmology practice with 2 surgical suites to accommodate LASIK, Eyelid and Cataract surgery. Our Abbotsford location is also a fully equipped clinic with a surgical suite under construction to perform Eyelid, Cataracts and Plastic surgery.
