Ophthalmologists – Prince George, BC

Northern Health is seeking a comprehensive Ophthalmologist in Prince George; British Columbia’s Northern Capital! Join as a permanent member of the department or choose to locum at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC). Prince George is the centre of business, education, health and culture for Northern BC. The UHNBC group serves a rural population of 400,000 people over an area of 600,000 square kilometers.

2 Ophthalmologists – Newfoundland Health Authority

The Division of Ophthalmology, in conjunction with the Department of Surgery for the Newfoundland Health Authority, is seeking 2 ophthalmologists to join our team in beautiful St. John’s, NL.

One day per week of local anesthetic operating time at Health Sciences Centre is allocated per ophthalmologist, with more time available in publicly funded private operating rooms for cataract surgeries. One half day per week is allocated in the HSC Eye Clinic for minor procedures, lasers, and injections. Call is shared equally amongst all division members. While sub-specialty expertise in cornea or glaucoma would be an asset, any comprehensive ophthalmologist or other sub-specialty is welcome. Affiliation with Memorial University of Newfoundland medical school is available. Establishing an
outpatient private office is required, though some local clinics may have space to share if desired.

Positions will remain open until filled.

Requirements:
• FRCSC certification in ophthalmology, or FRCSC eligibility.
• MD degree from a recognized university.
• Eligible for full independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Locum Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Kingston Health Sciences Centre/Queen’s University Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a qualified comprehensive ophthalmologist. The position is open from May 1, 2023 until December 31, 2023, with the possibility of an extension.

The full-time comprehensive ophthalmologist will provide general medical and surgical eye care services including cataract surgery. They will also join a large on-call roster as required by the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. The successful candidate will be provided with OR time and will have access to lasers and a surgical suite.  Qualified candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons fellowship, or equivalent.

General Ophthalmologist – Regina, Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is seeking a team-oriented and professional Ophthalmologist (FRCSC) to be part of Regina’s dynamic and expanding ophthalmology division. Our practice is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to our patients, and we are looking for a physician who shares this commitment. The specialist will join us in an independent, fee-for-service, community-based Ophthalmology practice. The Regina Ophthalmology Division includes 12 specialists with diverse sub-specialty interests.

Ophthalmology services are based out of the Pasqua Hospital, a community-based hospital and referral centre specializing in Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Urology and Paediatric Oncology. Permanent Full-Time Ophthalmologist Opportunities – Owen Sound, Ontario

We have an immediate opening for 1-2 full-time general Ophthalmologists to join our team – includes access to operating time. Specialists provide on-call support, in-patient surgical services and outpatient consultations and follow-up to a wide catchment area of over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million short-stay visitors each year.

Operating Room time is based at the Owen Sound and Meaford hospitals as part of the Division of Ophthalmology. The equivalent of one day per week of OR is being offered for this position. Both of our sites are equipped with Zeiss microscopes that incorporate the Callisto eye Toric alignment system for more accurate positioning of toric IOLs. In addition, both sites are equipped with a full complement of MST instruments for anterior segment surgery and sutured IOL work. Our Meaford site boasts brand new instrumentation allowing up to 18 cataract cases to be performed daily using the WhiteStar Signature Pro J&J/AMO cataract surgery platform. Instrumentation is also available for minor oculoplastic procedures at both sites.

The On-Call distribution will be 1 in 5.

Ophthalmologist Opportunity – Vancouver Island

The Island Health Division of Ophthalmology is seeking a combined Pediatric and Adult ophthalmologist to join their team in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.

Eligible applicants will hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology, have minimum 1 year of Pediatric ophthalmology post graduate fellowship at a recognized program, and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.

Responsibilities will include: consultation for medical and surgical pediatric ophthalmology, pediatric and adult strabismus surgery, pediatric intraocular surgery, adult comprehensive ophthalmology, sharing ROP screening for South Vancouver Island at the NICU. Adult intraocular surgery (cataract surgery) would not be required but would be available based on the candidate skill set and interest.

Comprehensive General Ophthalmologist, Trillium Health Partners – Surgery Program

Trillium Health Partners (THP) is the largest community based academic health network in Ontario, serving over one million residents in the communities of Mississauga, Peel Region and West Toronto. Ophthalmologist – Vision Rehabilitation Specialist position, University of Ottawa Eye Institute

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Department of Ophthalmology is seeking an ophthalmologist specialized in Vision Rehabilitation to join our dynamic team at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute. This appointment would include surgical time for cataract at The Ottawa Hospital as well as an academic appointment with the University of Ottawa and a prominent teaching role for residents and other trainees.

Primary Responsibilities of a successful candidate:

  • Leadership of the TOH Vision Rehab program.
  • Delivery of minimally 1.5 days of clinical Vision Rehab care per week at TOH.

Neuro-ophthalmology specialist position(s), University of Ottawa Eye Institute

Retina Research Fellowship

The Retina Research Fellowship is a one-year, full-time training program designed to provide advanced education and hands-on research experience in retina-related disorders. The fellowship is open to individuals who have completed medical school and are interested in pursuing a career in Ophthalmology and or retina research.

The program is based at a leading research institution with a strong reputation in retina research. The fellow will work closely with the principal investigator and collaborate with international faculty. Ophthalmologist – Oculoplastics

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Ivey Eye Institute of St. Joseph’s Health Care London and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University invites applications for a full time clinical academic position in Ophthalmology with an Oculoplastics specialization.

The Ivey Eye Institute, which is the main referral centre for eye disease in Southwestern Ontario, is committed to excellence in patient care, education and research. Its’ operating and procedure rooms, teaching facilities, library collection, urgent eye clinic, orthoptic service and diagnostic service provide a sound foundation for the Institute’s excellent reputation in all of its activities. Position Profile

The successful candidate will be a Clinician Teacher or Clinician Researcher and hold a Full-Time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. The Department of Ophthalmology is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London and is presently comprised of 20 surgeons with busy clinical practices. The Department has a strong clinical research interest and is an accredited Royal College training program.

Lecturer/Assistant or Associate Professor Ophthalmologist: Cornea External Disease Specialist

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto (DOVS) is inviting applications for the position of Cornea & External Disease specialist with a primary appointment at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC). The appointment is a full-time clinical position with an expectation of at least 20% non-clinical work (research, teaching, and academic administration). The effective date of this appointment is September 1, 2023.

The candidate will participate in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows and will add to the body of knowledge through original research. The candidate will be required to participate in the quality improvement, education, and research committees in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

The successful candidate will provide clinical and surgical sub-specialty care in Cornea & External Disease and cataract surgery and will also participate in on-call duties in General Ophthalmology at SHSC. Up to 20% (0.2 FTE) may be spent on non-Sunnybrook/DOVS-related activities. The successful candidate will assume care of patients in an existing clinical and surgical cornea practice, and will be responsible for the acute management of ocular burns, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and other ocular surface conditions at the Ross Tilley Burn ICU. Experience in the clinical and surgical training of residents and fellows is an asset.

The successful candidate should possess research interest and aptitude as evidenced by advanced training and publication history. The candidate must hold an MD degree or equivalent, have fellowship training in Cornea & External Disease, have experience in both performing corneal transplantation surgeries and in postoperative management of corneal transplantation surgeries. The candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or higher. The candidate must currently hold or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This position is resourced with clinic space, surgical privileges, administrative space, and diagnostics.

Surgical Locum Opportunity – Alberta

Locum opportunity to cover a maternity leave starting June 1, 2023 at a surgical Ophthalmology practice in Red Deer, AB. Length of the locum is negotiable between 4-12 months.

Brand new Ophthalmology practice. Four fully equipped exam lanes and a Zeiss IOL master 700, Zeiss Cirrus OCT 5000, Zeiss Visucam 224, Zeiss ATLAS 9000 and Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer 860. Clinic uses Accuro EMR that is cloud based and can be accessed from home. Four fully trained and friendly staff will be available to the locum, as well as billing services (if needed). Surgical privileges will be given at both Innisfail and Red Deer Hospital. Locum will have access to one OR day a week and two minor procedure days a month. There is access to a YAG and Argon laser.

Compensation is fee-for-service and call stipends. Competitive income. Approximate billing amounts and overhead can be discussed in person. The practice already has a large waiting list for both surgical and non-surgical consults. Referral base largely from optometrists and GPs in Central Alberta.

Red Deer is a vibrant city filled with a wide assortment of activities, lush green spaces and unique local culture and art. The city has an extensive trail system that can be used 365 days a year for biking, walking, and cross-country skiing. An ideal city for people who enjoy the outdoors, and is a short drive to Sylvan Lake, Banff and Jasper National parks. Located half-way between Calgary and Edmonton, two international airports are approximately an hour away. Red Deer is Alberta’s third most populous city with a population of over 100,000 people, and a catchment area of over 400,000.
