Recruiting Ophthalmologists – Canada Wide

Locum Opportunity in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia

Seeking a comprehensive ophthalmology locum to provide medical and surgical coverage for my patients starting in June or September 2024 with the potential for extension. If you are looking for a medical locum, that can be arranged as well. This locum is located in the lower mainland of BC. During the locum you will have access to YAG/SLT laser, visual field, OCT, fundus camera and minor procedure time for eyelid procedures and cataract OR time.

The locum would require a CPSBC license to practice in British Columbia, as well as Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology. Clinic time would be approximately 3.5 days a week with another half day of minor procedure time and a day of cataract OR time each week.

1-2 Full Time General Ophthalmologists – Owen Sound, Ontario

We have an immediate opening for 1-2 full-time general Ophthalmologists to join our team – includes access to operating time. Specialists provide on-call support, in-patient surgical services and outpatient consultations and follow-up to a wide catchment area of over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million short-stay visitors each year.

Operating Room time is based at the Owen Sound and Meaford hospitals as part of the Division of Ophthalmology. The equivalent of one day per week of OR is being offered for this position. Both of our sites are equipped with Zeiss microscopes that incorporate the Callisto eye Toric alignment system for more accurate positioning of toric IOLs. In addition, both sites are equipped with a full complement of MST instruments for anterior segment surgery and sutured IOL work. Our Meaford site boasts brand new instrumentation allowing up to 18 cataract cases to be performed daily using the WhiteStar Signature Pro J&J/AMO cataract surgery platform. Instrumentation is also available for minor oculoplastic procedures at both sites.

The On-Call distribution will be 1 in 5.

The option for joining an existing out-of-hospital clinical practice exists in the community – This would allow someone wanting to join our team to be able to rapidly relocate and start seeing patients and performing surgery with minimal delay.

Brightshores Health System (Brightshores) operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region serving a population of over 170,000. The Owen Sound hospital is a Level 2 regional referral centre, offering a full range of specialty services through the Departments of Anaesthesia, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Hospitalist Medicine, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery (ENT, General/Thoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Urology).

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist – Vancouver General Hospital, Eye Care Centre

Come work as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Ophthalmology Department at Vancouver Hospital Eye Care Centre and the University of British Columbia are seeking applicants for the post of comprehensive ophthalmologist.

Candidates must have Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status, be licensed to practice in British Columbia, have CMPA coverage, and have Royal College certification.  Additionally, we are inviting residents in their final year of residency at an accredited Ophthalmology Program to apply with the expectation that they will successfully complete their training, pass their Royal College exams and obtain a license to practice medicine in BC. The candidate will be required to maintain an office in Vancouver and provide primary eye care for the local population.

This position provides admitting and operating privileges at Vancouver General Hospital and operating privileges at the Eye Care Centre, as well as access to the Eye Care Centre treatment room and shared lasers. The successful applicant will be part of the clinical faculty of the University of British Columbia and are expected to remain in good standing.  No salary is provided for this position, as it is based on fee for service billing.

Responsibilities include participation in the ophthalmology on-call rota and taking an active role in the teaching of medical students, residents, colleagues, and nurses, as determined by the Department Head. At a minimum, this will involve supervising medical students and residents in the VGH Emergency Eye Clinic (resident teaching clinic) 3 days per month and the Downtown Eastside Eye Clinic one half-day per month. These expectations are subject to the operational needs of the Department and the Department Head may reduce this at his discretion to one day every second week.

Ophthalmologist, Glaucoma and Uveitis Fellowship Trained – Vancouver Coastal Health

The Ophthalmology Department at Vancouver Hospital Eye Care Centre and the University of British Columbia are seeking applicants for the post of ophthalmologist: glaucoma and uveitis fellowship trained. Candidates must have Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status, be licensed to practice in British Columbia, have Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage, and have Royal College certification. The candidate will be required to maintain an office at the Vancouver General Hospital/University of British Columbia Eye Care Centre and provide glaucoma and uveitis eye care. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the B.C. Human Rights Code. Locum, Medical and Surgical Retina Specialist – Dept of Ophthalmology, Western University

The Dept of Ophthalmology at the Ivey Eye Institute, St Joseph’s Health Care London, and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University invite applications for a full-time clinical academic locum position in Ophthalmology as a Medical and Surgical Retina Specialist from May 06, 2024 to November 30, 2024. The start date can be flexible and adjusted to June or July if required by the candidate.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Specialist certification in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must have completed a minimum of two years fellowship training in Medical and Surgical Retina.

Expectations:

  • Management of retinal diseases in the outpatient service.

The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at McGill University is currently inviting applications for a full-time clinician-scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) level. The professorial rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not offer eligibility for tenure.

The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a teaching hospital for McGill and the McGill Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The incumbent must demonstrate aptitude and interest in providing surgical and medical care in general ophthalmology, and demonstrate capabilities in retinopathies, ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, and/or ocular oncology. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching and service within the department

The successful applicant will contribute to a strong interdisciplinary clinical and basic research program and will be expected to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated ophthalmology department (i.e., clinical duties, education, and research). Successful candidates will provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, and clinical fellows. Protected research time and laboratory resources within the MUHC will be available to candidates with exceptional research potential. The position is 60-70: 40-30% research-clinical.

Vitreoretinal Surgeons – Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC

The Island Health Department of Surgical Services is seeking a fellowship trained surgical retina specialist to join the Division of Ophthalmology in Nanaimo to provide services to the community and subspecialist services to the region.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology;
  • Have a minimum one year of vitreoretinal surgery post graduate fellowship training completed by July 2024 in a recognized fellowship program;
  • Be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.

The successful candidate will have regular surgical time allocated to them in the main operating room with anesthesiology support. Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (356 acute care beds) enjoys state-of-the-art surgical suites with access to a surgical centre located adjacent to the hospital. The hospital has full diagnostic capabilities, including a 64-slice CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, a cancer clinic and critical care intensivists and is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency program site.

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist – Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC

The Island Health Department of Surgical Services is seeking a general / comprehensive ophthalmologist to join the Division of Ophthalmology in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.

The successful candidate will hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. Academic Glaucoma Specialist – The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University

The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic glaucoma specialist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree with sub-specialty training in glaucoma. Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada(RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties.

The Department has a busy glaucoma service providing all the complex glaucoma care for the region. The service is well equipped with all the latest diagnostic and therapeutic devices (MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The service is highly innovative and conducts research into new models of eye care delivery. It has a fellowship training program, training 1-2fellows per year. The Department also has an excellent residency program in Ophthalmology (with 12-13 residents).

The Department enjoys an excellent reputation for employing innovative and enthusiastic teachers for learners at all levels. Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong track record or exhibit strong potential for clinical, surgical, and didactic teaching.

The Department is involved in new models of eye care delivery (including e-Consults, tele-ophthalmology, and remote real-time diagnostics). Surgical Retina Specialist Position, The Ottawa Hospital

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a fellowship trained Vitreoretinal surgeon to join our dynamic team.  The position would include all aspects of team-based patient care including surgical time for vitreo-retinal surgery of adult and pediatric patients, an academic appointment with the University of Ottawa, a prominent teaching role for residents and other trainees, and an appointment with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI).

Primary Responsibilities of a successful candidate:

  • To maintain an Ottawa office and provide primary medical and surgical retinal care for the population of Ottawa and its environs.
  • Full participation in the retina on-call rotation for TOH.
  • Training and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, ophthalmic medical technologists, and others as determined by the Department Head. Training expectations include teaching in the operating room, clinic, and didactic sessions.
  • Commitment to supporting the Department with service on committees, attending Department meetings, and undertaking administrative roles as requested by the Department Head.
  • Resident emergency clinic coverage of minimally 0.5 days per week at TOH.
  • Weekly specialty clinic at TOH, 0.5 days per week.

Surgical Vitreoretinal Sub-Specialist, Dalhousie University & Nova Scotia Health

Pediatric Ophthalmologist, Alberta Children’s Hospital – Calgary, Alberta

The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for a Pediatric Ophthalmologist at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.   Required qualifications include a MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology, or equivalent, and a minimum of one year fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. Please provide a letter of eligibility from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). This position is considered sponsorship eligible by Alberta Health Services. Special training and/or interest in pediatric ocular oncology or oculoplastics will be an asset.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student and resident teaching.  Full pediatric ophthalmology clinic service will be provided on site at Alberta Children’s Hospital. The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to work at a department run clinic on the west end of Kingston, Ontario. (Kingston Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences Centre – KOVSC). Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree. Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties.

The Department has an excellent residency program in Ophthalmology (with 13 residents). The Department enjoys an excellent reputation for employing innovative and enthusiastic teachers for learners at all levels. Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong track record or exhibit strong potential for clinical, surgical, and didactic teaching.

The successful candidate will receive fee-for-service funding, with appropriate levies applied for the use of resources. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

The Dept of Ophthalmology at the Ivey Eye Institute, St Joseph’s Health Care London, and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University invite applications for a temporary clinical locum with associated part-time adjunct/MD academic position in Ophthalmology as a Medical and Surgical Retina Specialist from May 06, 2024 to November 30, 2024.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Specialist certification in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must have completed a minimum of two years fellowship training in Medical and Surgical Retina.

Expectations:

  • Management of retinal diseases in the outpatient service.
  • Surgical management of retinal diseases – Operating Room time will be provided
  • Full participation in the retina on-call schedule (1 in 4).
