Ophthalmologist – Cornea, External Disease and Uveitis

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Ivey Eye Institute of St. Joseph’s Health Care London and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University invites applications for a full time clinical academic position in Ophthalmology with a Cornea, External Disease and Uveitis specialization.

The Ivey Eye Institute, which is the main referral centre for eye disease in Southwestern Ontario, is committed to excellence in patient care, education and research. Its’ operating and procedure rooms, teaching facilities, library collection, urgent eye clinic, orthoptic service and diagnostic service provide a sound foundation for the Institute’s excellent reputation in all of its activities. The specialists in the department are an integral part of the medical and surgical team, treating diseases and conditions of the eye for adults and children, and helping to diagnose general medical disorders.

The successful candidate will be a Clinician Teacher or Clinician Researcher and hold a Full-Time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. The Department of Ophthalmology is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London and is presently comprised of 20 surgeons with busy clinical practices. The Department has a strong clinical research interest and is an accredited Royal College training program.

Central Health – Locum Ophthalmologist

The successful applicant will be appointed a minimum rank of lecturer with the University of Manitoba but adaptable based on qualifications. Clinic support at a reputable ophthalmology clinic in the community is available and surgical privileges at Brandon Regional Health Centre and Minnedosa Health Centre will be provided. The successful candidate is expected to provide medical care of retinal disease and surgical care of anterior segment disease including cataracts. Main job duties include diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, prescribing medications and treatment (intravitreal drug treatment and anterior segment surgery but excluding retinal surgery), ordering lab tests and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians, medical research, and teaching. These job duties encompass 100% of the position. Job duties are required in English.

Department of Surgery: Division of Ophthalmology

The Department of Surgical Services at Quinte Health is seeking a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join the Division of Ophthalmology to provide General Ophthalmology services to our community and potential subspecialist services to the region.

Quinte Health will have OR time available for the Ophthalmologist that is recruited. Full participation in the on-call schedule is a requirement of the position.

The operating room at Quinte Health is equipped for ophthalmic surgery and is located at Trenton Memorial Hospital. In addition, the hospital is also equipped with a YAG/SLT laser, retinal pattern scan laser, B-scan ultrasound, and a minor procedure room. Eligible applicants will hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology and are eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Subspecialty training in glaucoma is a potential asset.

Chair and Associate Professor/Professor, Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Sciences, University of Toronto

Applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Sciences in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate must hold an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and a clinical MD appointment at a fully-affiliated hospital. The appointment as Chair will be for a 5-year term effective July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter, renewable for a second term following a favourable review.

In addition to being a scholar, experienced clinician, educator and innovator, the successful candidate must be an effective communicator with a track record of collaborative and inclusive leadership. The candidate must demonstrate a deep understanding and track record of multidisciplinary collaboration with other ophthalmic professionals. To lead a department distributed across many affiliated hospitals, the Chair will bring a record of excellence in research, creative professional activity and education, and possess outstanding leadership, management and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and empathy-informed problem solving are necessary to cultivate collaborative relationships in the public  and private sectors. Effective strategies are required to build and sustain partnerships locally, nationally and internationally.

Geographic Full-Time Glaucoma Specialist – The Ottawa Eye Institute

The University of Ottawa Department of Ophthalmology has opened a new academic geographic fulltime position and are seeking a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist to join our dynamic team at the Ottawa Eye Institute. This appointment would include a prominent teaching role for residents and other trainees. It would also include an appointment with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the expectation of sustained clinical research. The successful applicant will also hold a consultant position with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Training and supervision of trainees in the operating room, clinic, and classroom settings.
  • Tertiary level glaucoma care including emergency on-call service.
  • Commitment to research activities within the department.

Resources:

  • Four half days of clinic time at the Ottawa Hospital Eye Institute.
  • Access to the OR resource at the Ottawa Hospital as per current allocation methodology. At least half of this time will be dedicated to glaucoma surgery with the remaining time available for cataract surgery. Surgical time is contingent upon sustained teaching and research activity.
  • Access to the minor room and lasers (YAG, SLT, Argon).
  • A new glaucoma clinic at the uOttawa Eye provides a state-of-the-art facility for the care of glaucoma patients.
  • Office space

The successful candidate will have an academic appointment with the University of Ottawa and an appointment as a researcher with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). There would also be a consultant role with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

Glaucoma or Pediatric French-Speaking Ophthalmologist

The Division of Ophthalmology at the Gatineau Hospital in Quebec is inviting applications for a full-time ophthalmologist to join its team!

We are a collegial group of mostly young ophthalmologists servicing the Gatineau-Outaouais region, across the river from Ottawa. We value work-life balance. Our region is known for its outdoor life, Scandinavian spas, beautiful parks, water sports, and numerous biking paths which several ophthalmologists use to get to work. For those who enjoy a more urban lifestyle, Ottawa is a short bike ride away.

Gatineau Hospital is affiliated with McGill University with its own local campus on site (Campus Outaouais). Applicants are encouraged to participate in teaching activities and may pursue scholarly activities.

The successful applicant will be allocated full OR privileges in our brand new surgical suites, and regular time at our outpatient clinic for lasers and minor procedures. Recently, the department has acquired a hospital budget to be allocated for glaucoma devices.

Applicant Physicians must have licensure with the Collège des Médecins du Québec (CMQ) and have, or must be eligible, for certification in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Fluency in French is a requisite and is required for licensure with the CMQ. Special consideration will be given to applicants with either a special interest or fellowship in glaucoma or pediatrics.

Locum Opportunity in Belleville
