Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology, Montfort Hospital, is inviting applications to fill 2 positions of Comprehensive Ophthalmologist. Subspecialty training is an asset but not required.

The Montfort Hospital is Ontario’s francophone academic teaching hospital and is affiliated with the University of Ottawa. As such, we are seeking bilingual applicants who have a proficiency in offering care in both French and English. The Montfort Hospital is one of only 2 hospitals in Ottawa offering ophthalmology services.

The successful candidate will join a team of 6 ophthalmologists and will have access to the operating room for cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and other anterior segment procedures. Access to a minor procedure room as well as SLT, Yag, and Argon Lasers is available. The candidate will participate in the ophthalmology call schedule and will provide emergency care to ambulatory patients and inpatients. The candidate must possess exemplary clinical skills with evidence of excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills. The candidate will be required to support the department with teaching commitments, involving primarily the supervision of medical students in the French stream of the MD programme. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa.

Certification in Ophthalmology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is a requirement. Candidates must have CMPA coverage in good standing.
