World Sight Day, led by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), is a global awareness day focused on the importance of eye health
It’s a perfect opportunity to spread the word and empower ourselves, our families, and our communities to take care of our eyes.
What are Canadians saying about their eye health?
No matter what corner of Canada you call home, Canadians overwhelmingly agree: eye health matters.

A recent national survey by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society offers a snapshot of what people across the country think about eye health and reveals where there’s more to learn – so we can all take better care of our eyes.
Eye Health at a Glance: Canadian Perspectives
Canadians care deeply about their vision:
- 97% believe that eye care is crucial to overall wellbeing
- 83% say they prioritize their vision health
Most Canadians rate their overall eye health as excellent or good, but many of us still have some blind spots when it comes to knowing how to take care of our eyes
Only about half of Canadians:
- Understand what factors affect their eye health
- Feel familiar with treatment options for serious eye conditions
- Are aware of the different roles of eye care professionals


When it comes to eye health, Canadians are increasingly concerned about:
- Screentime, especially for kids
- Extreme weather like UV exposure, wildfire smoke, and cold winds
Canadians value innovative eye care and are confident in their ability to access it
- 92% say access to cutting-edge exams and treatments is important
- 82% believe vision care in Canada is innovative
- 75% feel they currently have access to innovative eye exams and treatments
It’s clear that Canadians love their eyes. And by learning more about eye health, you can make confident choices that help protect your vision for years to come.
