Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Ophthalmologist, either a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist or a medical/surgical Glaucoma Specialist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree with specialty training in ophthalmology +/- sub-specialty training in glaucoma. Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties.

Should the successful incumbent be a comprehensive ophthalmologist they will be expected to provide the breadth of care within ophthalmology including but not limited to seeing and caring for routine cornea, retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, uveitis, pediatrics, and neuro-ophthalmology cases as well as perform cataract surgery and other laser and minor procedures.

Should the successful incumbent be glaucoma specialist they will be expected to provide complex medical and surgical glaucoma subspecialty care, including the breadth of implantable glaucoma surgical devices (to MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The Department has a busy glaucoma service providing all the complex glaucoma care for the region. The service is well equipped with all the latest diagnostic and therapeutic devices (MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The service is highly innovative and conducts research into new models of eye care delivery. It has a fellowship training program, training 1-2 fellows per year.
