The Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) Department of Surgical Services is seeking a fellowship-trained Surgical Retina Specialist to join the Division of Ophthalmology in Nanaimo. This role provides an opportunity to deliver retinal care to the local community while offering subspecialty vitreoretinal services throughout the region.

Qualifications:

– Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or legally entitled to work in Canada
– Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology
– Completion of a Canadian ophthalmology residency
– Minimum one-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship completed by July 2026
– Eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia

The successful candidate will have dedicated operating room time with anesthesiology support.

Based at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, a 356-bed regional referral centre, you will have access to modern surgical suites, a private surgical centre, MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, a cancer clinic, and critical care services. The hospital serves a local population of 160,000 and provides referral services to more than 350,000 people across central Vancouver Island.
