Seeking a surgical retina locum for my practice in Victoria, BC, for approximately two months starting late July 2026.
Private practice of medical and surgical retina in solo office with hospital privileges. Good volume of consultations as well as injections and surgery. Access to a fully equipped retina OR at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, with a Zeiss Artevo microscope and Resight system, complete with intraoperative OCT capabilities, as well as the newest Alcon Unity system, one of the first in the country. Scheduled OR days average about 1 day per week, with possibility of urgent cases after hours. There is also access to a fully equipped hospital eye clinic, equipped with a PASCAL laser, cryo, B scan, and the other usual necessities.
Call coverage is 1 in 4, one week at a time, covering the entire Vancouver Island. Call is shared with two surgical retina colleagues in Victoria as well as one in Nanaimo. Participation in the screening for ROP at the NICU is expected as well.
We have a good group of other ophthalmology colleagues in the city. You will be well-supposed by subspecialists in other specialties, including glaucoma, cornea/ant segment, oculoplastics, pediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology and uveitis. Additionally, there are medical-only retina colleagues in Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, and Comox.
The city itself is mid-sized, with an amazing climate and a good mix of outdoor and cultural activities. Easy ferry ride or plane ride over to Vancouver as well.
The candidate should have completed a surgical retina fellowship in a recognized program, and have or be eligible for CPSBC registration.
