Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Nova Scotia Health Authority

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is currently seeking a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to provide surgical and clinical care in Cape Breton. The individual would be an autonomous, patient-oriented, team player. Sub-specialty training and experience would be a welcome asset.

The OR has a new Zeiss microscope with Callisto Eye system for Premium IOLs, an Alcon phaco machine and an outstanding surgical support staff. There is one full day per week of OR time available for local procedures. The ambulatory care centre has Zeiss Cirrus OCT, fluoroscein angiography, Argon and YAG lasers as well as excellent clinic support staff including a COMT and nursing. One day per week is available for injections, lasers and minor procedures. Orthoptic services are available locally.

Cape Breton is a naturally beautiful area on the ocean with a strong, family oriented community. A wonderful work-life balance is possible with fabulous outdoor activities such as golf, hiking, cycling, boating and fishing. There is a handy regional airport with direct flights to Toronto and Halifax.

The Ophthalmologist should be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. Support is available for site visits and relocation.

Le Centre Universitaire d’Ophtalmologie à l’Hôpital du Saint-Sacrement à Québec est à la recherche d’un remplaçant pour une durée d’un an dans le service glaucome, débutant le 1er juillet 2019. Il y a possibilité d’un nouveau poste à temps plein suivant le remplacement.

Le CUO, affilié avec l’Université Laval, regroupe plus de 28 ophtalmologistes avec des spécialistes dans toutes les surspécialités de l’ophtalmologie. Le candidat éligible doit avoir une certification équivalente au FRCSC en ophtalmologie, une formation supplémentaire en glaucome et un intérêt à contribuer aux activités académiques et de recherche du département. Le candidat rejoindra un groupe de trois spécialistes en glaucome.

Voici des informations supplémentaires en lien avec le poste:

  • deux à trois journées de clinique par semaine
  • quatre journées de bloc opératoire minimum par mois pour opérer les cas de glaucome et de cataracte
  • une journée de clinique d’urgence par mois (8 h à 17 h)

This is a well-established, fee-for-service, comprehensive ophthalmology practice within an accredited Non-Hospital Surgical Facility (NHSF). The NHSF serves a city of 80,000 people, with a catchment area/population of over 300,000 people.

This practice and NHSF offer the full scope of general ophthalmology services, including Cataract surgery, Anti-VEGF treatments, SLT, Corneal crosslinking, surface/dry eye clinics (including Lipiflow) and also refractive surgery. Ample operating time are available in a dedicated eye care facility. The facility has a vast array of diagnostic equipment, 2 modern surgical suites equipped with Zeiss Lumera 700 ceiling-mounted microscopes and Centurion Phacoemulsification units. 1,000 Cataract procedures are performed each year at this NHSF. Above-average revenue can be expected. There is a significant opportunity for expansion of private surgical services.

Existing sub-specialties in the region include pediatric, refractive and medical retina services. The practice currently hosts two full-time and one part-time Associates. Call expectations are 1:4.

Grande Prairie is the largest city in Northern Alberta, with exceptional access to outdoor recreational activities, including golf, hunting, hiking, ATV activities and fishing at your doorstep. High-quality local public and French immersion schools and educational facilities are available. Grande Prairie hosts a regional airport, and our tertiary care centre, Edmonton, is only 400km away.

Call for grant proposals to National Glaucoma Research (NGR), a program of BrightFocus Foundation

Applications for 2019 awards are due on November 9, 2018. BrightFocus provides research funds for U.S. domestic as well as international researchers pursuing pioneering research with relevance to the prevention and treatment of glaucoma.

The maximum award value of the NGR Standard Award is US $200,000, payable over two years.

Preference is given to exciting, cutting-edge type projects that would not, at their present stage, be competitive for large government or industry awards. Typically, these awards are made to junior investigators or to more established investigators who are proposing particularly innovative research.
