National Coalition for Vision Health

Calvin Breslin, Chairman of the Council on Eye Care and a member of the COS Board of Directors since 1999 has been elected to a two-year term as Chairman of the National Coalition for Vision Health (NCVH) starting in 2005. He succeeds Raymond LeBlanc, a COS Past-President (1992 – 1994), who has chaired the Coalition for the past three years. The Coalition for Vision Health was formed following a recommendation of the Crisis on Vision Loss Conference in 1998, organized by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and funded by the government and COS as one of the sponsors. The Coalition was established as a multidisciplinary group to identify priorities for improving vision health. It is comprised of the three national ophthalmic groups representing ophthalmology, optometry and opticians, as well as the CNIB, the EA Baker Foundation, the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Vision Health Research Council and Medical Devices Canada (Ophthalmic Sector).
