The series of patient
information brochures was recently reviewed, updated
to reflect current knowledge and practices, and rewritten
in simple language to appeal to a broader audience and
people with low literacy skills. The 10 new brochures
are written in plain language using a question-and-answer
format, include simple graphics and large fonts, include
glossaries to explain complex terms and follow a standard
design template. They are available in both languages,
and while they are distributed primarily through the
CNIB, they may be purchased from the COS at reduced
cost for members. They can also be downloaded from the
COS website. The following topics are covered: Diabetes
and the Eye; Macular Degeneration; Strabismus; Retinal
Detachment; Cataracts; Amblyopia; Laser Surgery of the
Eye; Glaucoma; Floaters and Flashing Lights; and Eye
Safety.
