Maintenance of Certification in Fifth Year of Cycle

The Maintenance of Certification program is now in its fifth year. COS has accredited a number of Section 1 learning activity programs for physician organizations at the national, provincial and local level. In addition, the Society has co-sponsored quite a few popular industry programs both in Canada and in the United States. The environment for these meetings has changed considerably and implementing the RCPSC and CMA guidelines has resulted in more balanced educational content. It has been stressed that industry-sponsored programs must include a physician planning committee with COS participation from the inception of any educational curriculum and that surrounding activities are restricted to modest meals. Ophthalmologists approached to participate in planning committees are invited to contact the COS for a complete set of guidelines.
