Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines Published

In December 2003, the Canadian Diabetes Association published revised evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the prevention and management of diabetes in Canada to replace those previously published in 1998. The 2003 CPGs include a full chapter on diabetic retinopathy. The initial chapter was written by Iain Begg from Vancouver, B.C. and prior to publication was extensively reviewed by ophthalmologists and optometrists, as well as family physicians and diabetes specialists from across Canada and the USA. Eye care professional organizations, including the COS, were also asked to provide input. A print version (in French or English) of the CPGs is available for a nominal fee from the CDA (1-800-BANTING [226-8464]). The CPGs are also available in pdf and html formats at: http://www.diabetes.ca/cpg2003/default.aspx.
