Clarification on Applications for Section 1 Accreditation

The COS office has received a number of inquiries regarding the accreditation of courses organized by individual ophthalmologists. The Royal College criteria require Section 1 large-group learning activities to be led by physician organizations that serve the profession. In the case of industry-initiated programs, such courses must be co-sponsored by a physician organization such as the COS. It is important to note that the planning committee of co-sponsored courses must always be made up of ophthalmologists with a representative from the COS or its designate.

Anyone requiring further clarification should contact the COS office at 800-267-5763.
