South Asian Tsunami Relief Efforts

As part of the one of the biggest humanitarian efforts in history, Canadians are doing their part to bring relief to the stricken areas of South East Asia.
COS members may be wondering whether their Society is playing a role. The CMA has informed the COS that the best assistance physicians can provide at this time is to donate money to aid organizations working in the area. The Red Cross and other relief agencies are currently only deploying physicians experienced in disaster relief efforts. However, the Red Cross will be working in these areas for the long term and the CMA will keep Canadian physicians informed about opportunities to assist.

The CMA is currently collecting names, contact information, licensing and specialty information of potential volunteers and has been sending interested physicians the information acquired from the Public Health Agency of Canada. The data collected will remain confidential until requested by the Red Cross or other health officials who are coordinating relief efforts.
