We are seeking a motivated and collegial Locum Ophthalmologist to join a busy comprehensive ophthalmology practice in St. Thomas, Ontario. This opportunity is ideal for a physician interested in gaining community experience, supporting a high-volume general practice with opportunities for medical retina and minor oculoplastic/corneal procedures, and providing comprehensive patient care in a collaborative environment.
Position Details
- Role: Locum Ophthalmologist (General + Cataract Surgery, Medical Retina)
- Location: St. Thomas, Ontario
- Start Date: March 01, 2026
- Duration: minimum 3 months, up to 6 months – 1 year
- Schedule: 3-4 clinic days per week (laser clinics/medical retina); cataract OR time available at affiliated hospital once a week. Minor OR available every two weeks for: periocular lumps/bumps, pterygium removal, superficial keratectomy, etc.
- Compensation: OHIP fee-for-service; competitive overhead structure with administrative support included.
Practice Environment - Modern, fully equipped clinic with EMR (Accuro), diagnostic imaging (OCT, visual field), and minor procedures suite at the hospital.
- SLT/YAG laser available on-site.
- Multidisciplinary referral network with strong support from local optometrists and primary care providers.
- Dedicated technical and administrative staff to optimize clinic flow and minimize physician administrative burden.
Responsibilities - Provide comprehensive ophthalmic care to new and returning patients.
- Offer subspecialty services within your area of expertise.
- Perform cataract surgery/minor procedures.
- Provide on-call coverage (at least 40%/month) for the St. Thomas and Elgin region.
- Participate in patient education, inter-professional collaboration, and consultative services for referring providers.
