We are seeking a motivated and collegial Locum Ophthalmologist to join a busy comprehensive ophthalmology practice in St. Thomas, Ontario. This opportunity is ideal for a physician interested in gaining community experience, supporting a high-volume general practice with opportunities for medical retina and minor oculoplastic/corneal procedures, and providing comprehensive patient care in a collaborative environment.
Position Details

  • Role: Locum Ophthalmologist (General + Cataract Surgery, Medical Retina)
  • Location: St. Thomas, Ontario
  • Start Date: March 01, 2026
  • Duration: minimum 3 months, up to 6 months – 1 year
  • Schedule: 3-4 clinic days per week (laser clinics/medical retina); cataract OR time available at affiliated hospital once a week. Minor OR available every two weeks for: periocular lumps/bumps, pterygium removal, superficial keratectomy, etc.
  • Compensation: OHIP fee-for-service; competitive overhead structure with administrative support included.
    Practice Environment
  • Modern, fully equipped clinic with EMR (Accuro), diagnostic imaging (OCT, visual field), and minor procedures suite at the hospital.
  • SLT/YAG laser available on-site.
  • Multidisciplinary referral network with strong support from local optometrists and primary care providers.
  • Dedicated technical and administrative staff to optimize clinic flow and minimize physician administrative burden.
    Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive ophthalmic care to new and returning patients.
  • Offer subspecialty services within your area of expertise.
  • Perform cataract surgery/minor procedures.
  • Provide on-call coverage (at least 40%/month) for the St. Thomas and Elgin region.
  • Participate in patient education, inter-professional collaboration, and consultative services for referring providers.
