COS 2003 in Halifax, "Coastal Adventures" & Robert LaRoche, MD offer you The Eastern Shore Archipelago 1 or 3 Days Wilderness Sea Kayaking Excursions

Dundee is pleased to offer a special rate of $99.00 plus taxes per night based on double occupancy, with a minimum of a two night stay required.

See part of the Eastern Shore that extends from Halifax to Canso on the Nova ScotiaŐs Atlantic coast. It is young, in geological terms, scourged by the recent glaciations and left with a rugged and highly indented shoreline. The forces of erosion havenŐt had time to significantly alter the area since the Ice Age, while the ubiquitous bedrock mainly originates from northwestern Africa, thrusted against North America by continental drift. Of particular appeal are the hundreds of offshore islands, which form a band of pristine wilderness, with a stark and compelling beauty. Some scarcely breath air at high tide, others would take a day to walk around, and all have their own unique story to tell.

This narrow littoral zone is prolific, with numerous unique plants and animals - all seeking out their own particular ecological niche. The shoals, islets and islands offer a sheltered paradise to explore that ever-changing boundary of land and sea.

Aboard well-equipped sea kayaks for these excursions, we will journey to seal and sea birds colonies, over thick kelp beds and idyllic coves where few other vessels dare to venture and where the eagles are king. During the overnight trip we will cook gourmet meals over campfires and tent on the deserted islands. We will also uncover the vanishing signs of our own transient history when the first Europeans settled on these remote outposts, as close to the water as possible. The Eastern Shore is a juxtaposition of natural and human history, past and present, that forms a compelling mix.
