Dear Ophthalmic Medical Personnel,
The Canadian Society of Ophthalmic Medical Personnel (CSOMP) is responsible for promoting our profession in Canada, and we are continuing to undertake exciting new initiatives to serve you better. This past February the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology published the results of the needs assessment survey to address the need for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel and training programs in Canada. (See survey and related editorial.)
For those preparing for the COMT practical exam, JCAHPO has launched its much anticipated simulation exam. The exam was tested by practicing COMTs to confirm its validity. It will be offered on an annual basis at our summer meeting to those interested candidates.
Also please take note that the exam criteria have changed for the COA exam. You can view the updated criteria for COA, along with criteria for COT and COMT on the JCAHPO website.
We continue to ask for your support as we strive to increase membership in CSOMP and awareness of our profession. Please consider joining your professional society and certification through the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Our membership rate is $50 for a two-year membership. This entitles you to a reduction in the registration fees for the two annual COS meetings. The meetings take place across Canada. The annual meeting is a wonderful opportunity to earn continuing education credits and learn from experienced colleagues. You will also receive a certificate and regular newsletters outlining professional issues and news.
Thank you for participating in your chosen career.
